Technology

Today I am thankful for technology.

What?  Did Deb really just type that? 

Yep, she did.  Cause I am thankful for technology. 

I am thankful for the genius minds that pathed the way for technology - and I'm going all the way back to things like engineering technology - bridges and roads, buildings, water management - and things like communication technology - printing presses, writing utensil advancements, telephones - and things like logistical technology - shipbuilding, limitless use of the wheel, movement of goods and services - just to name a few.  Oftentimes now the word "technology" seems to bring information technology to mind primarily, but I want to acknowledge the foundation laid by folks down through the centuries upon which technology keeps being built.  Genius minds coming up with genius ideas that work.  I love that!  And I know I have benefited from all of that geniusness (is that a word?), so how could I not be thankful for it?  I could have included science and medical technology here but that is for another blog on another day.  (Stay tuned!)

And now I'll talk about what has made me include technology as one of my 30.  And I admit that most of the remaining focus will be with respect to information technology.

First off, it's my job.  And I LOVE my job!  I am one of those IT-type geeks that people call when they have a problem with the system OR they have a business need that they want the system to help them solve.  I LOVE helping people, and I love logical thinking, and I love making things work as smoothly as possible.  All of those things come together in my job of system technology.

Second, it brings such fun to people's lives!  Here are two examples:

This pic was sent to me via text message whle I was typing this here blog cause it's a brand new trick for the J-man, and he couldn't wait to share it with his Mimi.  Technology makes that happen!  What is not to love and be thankful for here?

 

Third, technology makes it possible for me to be doing what I'm doing at this very moment - sitting at a laptop of all things, creating words, correctly and editing as a go, sharing my thoughts with whoever cares to read them. hopefully making you feel thankful all at the same time.  How cool is that? 

 

I could go on, I'm sure, but I have other things I need to get done today, as do all of you.  But I am thankful for technology and the genius minds behind technology of all ages, and the Creator who makes all things possible.

 

Oh, and for pie.  I'm always thankful for pie.
