Grandpas and Boys

I'm missing our grandsons today.  Not a sad sort of missing, just a "boy, it's fun to see these guys!" sort of missing.

Surprisingly enough, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with our youngest, little J-man.  We even had some face time together.  Mimi is not very savvy at face time (it was just about my first!) but I plan to get better!  J-man didn't blow me a kiss, but he laughed when I blew him a kiss.  He showed me his new high-5 trick.  I wish face time was automatically recorded, so I could "call" him again and again...

I think the missing started this morning when I was looking over some pics from last weekend.  It got me thinkin' that there is something pretty special about a boy and his grandpa.  All of our grandsons are blessed to have multiple living and healthy grandpas, and I hope that is true for a very long time to come.  Now that my kiddos are all adults, they only have one remaining, living grandpa, and J's girls, my nieces, have lost both of their grandfathers.  Grandfathers just don't last for forever after all.

I never had any experiences with a natural grandfather, because both of mine were already gone by the time I was born.  Not that my experiences with a grandpa would have been the same as a boy and his grandpa, cause I'm a girl, but a good grandpa really is irreplaceable.  A most special commodity.

For playing in forts...
..or for chasing down balls hit off the T.
For catching boys on slides...
...or pushing boys in swings and making sure they're safe.
Grandpas know that little boys who love anything with wheels sometimes need a little help...
...or someone to share the laughter when they sorta can't quite make it work...yet...
Grandpas also have a keen sense that there is just something about a train and a boy.
PS - "Open it!" means the same thing as "Thank you, Grandpa!"

Grandpas make great resting places for looking at books...or, er, playing a video game.
Yep, there's something pretty special about boys...grandsons...grandpas...

There are reasons I'm missing each of them a bit today.  Glad we've got face time and pics.
