Story Time with Deb - Chapter 3

Here was Chapter 1 from two weeks ago.

And here was Chapter 2 from last week.

And this is Chapter 3 below.

Chapter 3
Iain and Ofelia looked at the door.  They looked at Slick.  They looked at each other.  They could hear the music.  They could hear the laughter.  The smell was getting stronger.
What to do?
Maybe it was the music.  Maybe it was the laughter.  Maybe it was the smell.  Maybe it was Slick’s words.  Maybe they just wondered what was on the other side.  But resisting was more than they could do.  They looked at each other one last time.
Ofelia didn’t notice the smile of victory on Slick’s face.  All she saw was the door.  All she heard was the music.  She had to see what was there.  She had to know what King Nascious and Slick new.  Perhaps she would be like the King and know as much as he knew.
Without thinking any longer, Ofelia reached for the doorknob and turned it.  The door opened easily, and in she went.  Iain followed quickly after.
What did they find in there?
At first they were unsure themselves.  The only light was the fiery red glow of the floor.  The walls and ceiling were black.
They couldn’t see anyone else in the room.  The laughter was not coming from any other person.  Instead the laughter seemed to be coming from the very walls.
Nor could they see a musical instrument or even a stereo playing the song that promised them freedom before.  Instead the music proved to be coming from a small music box sitting on the floor in front of them.  They watched and listened, hoping that it would play a new tune, but instead they just heard the same song over and over again.  They picked it up to see if they could make it play a new tune, but as is true of most music boxes, it played one tune and only one tune.
Iain looked back out the door for an explanation, but Slick was no longer around.  They knew instinctively that King Nascious and Prince Reed would never have spent any time in this room.
And what about the smell?  What was the smell?  Where was it coming from?  They followed their noses across the room.  The closer they got to the source, the stronger the smell became.  This, too, like the laughter and the music, proved to be misleading.  In fact, they now discovered that the smell was not pleasant at all.  Their noses lead them to a large box.  It was long, but not very wide or high.  It seemed to be just large enough for one person to fit inside if they were lying down.
Iain and Ofelia looked at each other and knew they had been tricked.  Slick had lied to them.
Moving back toward the door, they felt some things they had never felt before.  Sadness.  Regret.  Fear.  Darkness.  They couldn’t get out of the room fast enough!
