17 days left...Excel

What?

Has Deb lost her mind?  Aren't two things wrong in that title?

First off, yesterday was 19 days, so how can today be 17?

Yea...you're right.  I somehow got my countdown off somewhere.  And I call myself a math genius?  I can't seem to count backwards, so how can I be a math genius?  Or even a math genius in training?

But second off, Excel?  Deb is going to tell us that she is thankful for Excel?

Yep, it's true.  I am.  Now some of you, like my daughter, S, and my friend, P, are shaking your heads up and down right now in agreement, because you love Excel just as much if not more than me.

Others of you are ready to stop reading (if you haven't already) because Excel is a necessary evil to your days.  My sister, J, sorta feels this way about Excel from time to time.  Even others find Excel to be some torture device designed by geeks to make us live within the rows and columns when you are a "think outside the box" kind of guy.  You'd much rather use your computer skills to create and do all those fun things technology should be about!  My son, S, is sorta the poster child of this group.

But yes, I love Excel and am thankful some geniuses somewhere figured out how to take ledger paper that has been around for centuries and turn it into a computer program and then layer on math and logic and date and lookup formulas to top off the organization that comes from rows and columns.

Have you ever wondered how business would function today without Outlook and Excel?  Think about it...

But here is one of the main reasons I love Excel.  I use it for cooking and baking.  See?

Each one of these files are Excel files that I have used for years to organize and plan events.  And this doesn't even scratch the surface of the number of files I have used through the years.  See Pie Night 2011?  See Pie Night 2012?  And now Pie Night 2013?

Here is what the inside of Pie Night 2011 looks like.

I have each person's name and pie choice along with who is making it, and if that is me, what day I will make it, what kind of crust is involved, and its status.  And then across the bottom are the sheets for each pie - the recipe, pics, notes, etc.

So see, I'm not sure Pie Night would be Pie Night if it weren't for Excel.

Aren't you all now just as thankful for Excel?  I thought you would be.

Tomorrow's post will be about Pie Night research.  And you thought Pie Night was all about just eating pie.  Stay tuned, grasshopper....
