22 days left...Extended Family

Anyone who knows our story well, knows that we have a somewhat unusual extended family.  See this happy lady next to G?

This is Grandma N - my ex-husband's mother.  Yes, she has her arm around my current husband, and yes, he has his arm around her.  A bit strange, I know, but she still thinks of me as her daughter-in-law, and we're still family to her.  Including G.  She considers him family, too.  Extended family.

Now that I've married G, my extended family has grown even more.  There is an old promise to a widow - to stretch her tent flaps wide - her family will grow if she just keeps open to it and looking for it.  My tent flaps are very wide these days - in addition to R&E and their kids and K&E and their little K-man that you hear about often here, I have a couple of new sisters, a new brother, and many more nieces and nephews plus grand nieces and nephews than I can keep track of!  Extended family who have welcomed me into their family and for whom I am thankful.

Grandma N lives at a very nice retirement center, and they host a very nice family Thanksgiving dinner each year for the residents.  So here is our table to my left - extended family.  And please pay no attention to A taking a bite.  I am the worst photographer ever.  Instead pay attention to J-man enjoying his first Thanksgiving dinner with his mama...who in the pic, seems to look an awful lot like me.  I don't always see it, but this pic?  Yea...I see it a bit...

And here is the table to my right - more extended family.

We didn't just get to see extended family tonight.  I got to see how much I could remember of playing the piano.  I need to play more often.  I love playing when I do it...I just don't make myself do it with any regularity.  I gotta work on that.

But way better than that?  Seeing my son, S, sit down at the piano and pick out some chords and melodies.  I'd never seen him do that before.  Nice surprise.

I love Thanksgiving!  Extended family and surprises just make it that much better!

Oh and for pie.  I'm always thankful for pie.
